At Gear Lobo, we don’t worship the specs and the ounces and the ratings. We cherish the journeys that your outdoor gear will take you on.
If you have “last year’s model”, or 35 years ago’s model, or a DIY you put together with friends, or a duct tape abomination that’s working fine, rock it.
Save your money, and keep on cranking. We’ll be the last people to sell you some hyped up reason why you need a new one.
On the other hand, if it’s time for the “oldies but goodies” to be retired, we’ll point you in the right direction. Our reviews and comparisons focus on what we’ve found to be the most important to the majority of people. Additionally, we provide recommendations for a handful of more specific situations in every category (like say for instance, “the best cot for people that want a queen size“).
The Truth
We are straight up. We won’t know the answer to every question. Yes, we do make money by sending folks to Amazon. And yes, we’d rather be outdoors than sitting in front of our computers writing about it. 😉
Our request to you is that you also be honest with yourself. Shakespeare said it best right? “To Thine Own Self Be True.” The one thing that we can’t emphasize enough is for you to get outdoor gear that fits your style of recreating.
- Maybe you’re somebody that likes to pull up to a campground, jump out, and enjoy a night outside your house in relative comfort. While there are some purists that would thumb their noses at this, the truth is, there’s not a thing in the world wrong with it.
- On the other hand, maybe you’re somebody that likes to go hard. Wake up at 3:30 in the morning to be at the best fishing spot by 5. Backpack in, go ultralight, sacrifice a little (or a lot) in the way of amenities and comforts to take part in a more raw, unadulterated dance with the wilderness.
- Maybe you have kids, and want to guarantee a return trip by making sure they have a good experience. Maybe you only like to camp in the desert. Or at the beach. Or on Tuesdays. Or on May 23rd (no clue why, but hey, we’re a strange bunch).
Whatever it is, we salute it. Just be honest with yourself at every juncture and have some fun.
